East Fremantle’s iconic Roofing 2000 Site has been owned by long-time residents Rob Turner & Simon Melville since 1992.

Untouched for many years, the owners, together with Builtform Projects and Michael Patroni of the award-winning spaceagency architects are working to redevelop the site into residential apartments and commercial spaces.

As conscious developers, the project team have been mindful of keeping the East Fremantle community across their development plans every step of the way, and as such have engaged Detail to manage all community engagement activities around the project.

During the planning process, The Town of East Fremantle initiated Amendment No.14 as part of a Scheme Amendment to provide a planning framework to guide the redevelopment of the Roofing 2000 Site in line with the Town’s long-term Planning Strategy.

Following community feedback and a proposed change to the Amendment from The WA Planning Commission, Amendment No.14 was re-advertised with some modifications for public comment in 2019.

Following the announcement of the proposed modifications, Detail were engaged to concept, manage and deliver a community engagement event to engage with the local neighbourhood and seek support for green open space in East Fremantle.

The event was a Community Information Day, where members of the local community were invited to visit the site, enjoy a coffee and meet the project team to discuss the proposed changes and what they might mean for the future of the site. All attendees were then given the opportunity to have their say by making a submission to Town of East Fremantle.

In addition to the successful community engagement event, Detail also concepted, designed and delivered all printed materials including a direct mail piece and site signage, as well as developed media materials and managed all reactive media enquiries and the social media channels for the Roofing 2000 Site.

This project is ongoing.
