West Australian developer Saracen Properties recently purchased the Royal George Hotel in East Fremantle with the vision to return the heritage-listed Hotel to its former glory. The project offers Saracen a unique opportunity for the conservation, restoration and adaptive re-use of a significant heritage property.
After lying dormant for many years, Saracen aims to return the Hotel to its former glory, allowing the community to once again enjoy this much-loved icon. Combining old with new, the project aims to include a faithful restoration of the existing building, development of high-quality residential apartments and reinvigoration of surrounding public spaces. In keeping with its original use, the Hotel will house a unique hospitality experience that will be among Perth’s best.
Careful consideration of the site’s rich history and a focus on quality design will see the Royal George restored as the social heart of the historic George Street precinct.
Multiple-award-winning architect Michael Patroni of spaceagency has been engaged for the project, drawing on a wealth of knowledge and experience with other similar developments.
The mixed-use residential area surrounding the Royal George is a village style precinct and it was imperative to engage with the immediate community as well as the greater surrounding area.
Detail were engaged to manage the media as well as collaboratively develop a series of community engagement activations and events to engage with the local neighbourhood. The events included one on one consultations, tours of the Hotel, video presentation, public art installations, local business catering and providing detailed information materials. All attendees were requested to provide feedback via a Q&A managed through an independent third party.
This project is ongoing.
